Abstract
Museum objects are usually of high cultural and historical value. The main aim of the museums is their preservation, along with their investigation and presentation. Appropriate storage conditions are the best recipe for a long-term preservation of historical objects. Textiles are organic materials and thus very sensitive to different environmental impacts, like changes in temperature and humidity and also biological agents, like fungi, which grow more easily on previously degraded objects. We investigated several textile objects from different Slovene museums, which showed uncommon features, which could be fungal spots. We investigated them on presence of fungi as well as on structural changes due to ageing and biodeterioration, using different
methods, e.g. optical and scanning electron microscopy, infrared and Raman spectroscopy.
