Cultural Heritage’s Conservation and Innovation in a Globalized World

The existence of cultural heritage not only shows the history, culture, and society from the past era to the present time and people, but it also plays a role on continuing the past spirit, strength, and thought through the modern world. The cultural heritage, both material and nonmaterial, is accompanied by our ancestors’ minds and transmit them to us across the border of the time. To value and preserve them more, experts from different countries cooperate and share their own knowledge with each other.

Italy is one of the great ancient civilizations, and it has an enormous amount of cultural heritage. The conservation technology, law system, and citizen’s consciousness on protecting the cultural heritage in Italy are advanced and comprehensive so that both Italy’s theoretical and practical sides on protecting the cultural heritage are well developed. At the same time, there are other countries which develop great techniques and look for further improvements in the conservation of cultural remains. China is one of them. Forming an international bond would promote each other's learning and application in the archaeological field.

It shows the published books and articles about Chinese cultural heritages’ repairing technology. Detailedly, it includes the application of spatial digital technology on large remains, and it also provides information about some related equipment. For example, a vacuum freeze drier can stabilize the wooden structure and avoid transfiguration; a parylene vacuum machine can prolong the remains’ longevity through obstructing the outside things’ touching with the remains.

We can see China's enthusiasm in preserving cultural remains and its specialized field in Archaeology. The archaeological technology a country develops mainly match with the type of cultural heritages it owns. Therefore, different countries could probably exchange their specialized fields and make bigger progress in conserving their cultural heritage.

In this digitalized era, digital technology could also be applied well in archaeology. In the book Digital Preservation Technology for Cultural Heritage written by Mingquan Zhou, Guohua Geng, and Zhongke Wu, it discusses the technology and processes in digital preservation of cultural heritage. For instance, digital museums have been popular in China, because it presents the cultural remains in a digital and convenient way for the audiences and provides a more sustainable way of conservation with cultural heritage.

Expectedly, globalization of conserving cultural heritage is in progress. Applying modern methods on ancient remains is both an evolution and innovation. As an audience watches this wonderful moment, please do not miss the next time's new story.
