Più di 80 personalità nel campo della conservazione del patrimonio culturale: professionisti, scienziati, educatori e dirigenti, provenienti da tutto il mondo si incontreranno a Roma, tra il 16 e il 18 ottobre 2013 per riflettere su come le discipline scientifiche possano contribuire - nel presente e futuro - ad una efficace e sostenibile conservazione del patrimonio culturale. L’evento intende proporre sinergie tra i temi del patrimonio culturale e della sua conservazione, le discipline scientifiche e le sfide sempre più pressanti della comunicazione con il pubblico. Il Forum ICCROM si terrà presso l'Istituto Nazionale per la Grafica di Roma, vicino Fontana di Trevi.
Il Dott. Stefano De Caro, archeologo, e direttore generale dell’ICCROM, ha dichiarato: "Questo è un momento molto importante nel nostro campo. I partecipanti al Forum, che arrivano a Roma da 25 paesi, sono stati riuniti grazie ad un partenariato di 15 istituzioni provenienti da tutto il mondo. In questo momento, il patrimonio culturale è particolarmente a rischio. Coinvolgendo gli attori principali nella conservazione, il Forum intende inviare un forte segnale del settore dei beni culturali, pronto a intraprendere una collaborazione in tutto il mondo per affrontare le sfide più urgenti . Sono molto fiducioso dei lavori di questi tre giorni".
Durante l'incontro, discorsi di apertura saranno tenuti da Lidia Brito, responsabile delle politiche scientifiche e del settore di “capacity building” presso l'UNESCO; Johan Kuylenstierna , Stockholm Environmental Institute e Lynn Meskell , Stanford Archeologia Center.

More than 80 leading conservation practitioners, scientists, educators and managers from around the world will meet in Rome from 16-18 October 2013 to discuss how science should serve present and future cultural heritage conservation on a global scale. This think-tank will examine how to improve the connection between conservation, science, and society. The ICCROM Forum on Conservation Science is a three-day meeting that will take place at the National Institute for Graphic Arts in Rome, overlooking the iconic Trevi Fountain.
Dr. Stefano De Caro, archaeologist and Director-General of ICCROM, the coordinating body, said: “This is a very significant moment in our field. The Forum participants, coming to Rome from 25 countries, have been brought together by a partnership of 15 institutions from all over the world. Currently, cultural heritage is particularly at risk, as financial resources are diminishing everywhere. By engaging the main actors in conservation, the Forum will send a strong signal that the cultural heritage sector is keen to embark on a new worldwide collaboration to face the most pressing challenges. I am very hopeful that important progress will be made over the course of these three days.”
During the meeting, keynote addresses will be given by Lidia Brito, Science Policy and Capacity Building at UNESCO; Johan Kuylenstierna, Stockholm Environmental Institute; and Lynn Meskell, Stanford Archaeology Center.
